If you read only one Fourth of July essay this year, make it this one. Billmon puts his considerable talent as an observer and writer to good use. One of the things I really love about the blogosphere is that it gives voice to many interesting writers that may otherwise have their articulate voices unheard through the din of everyday life and cubicle walls.
