More Stuff I Didn't Know

...
Saturday Night Live’s Maya Rudolph is the daughter of the late Minnie Riperton.
Rudolph is the daughter of the late soul singer Minnie Riperton and Jewish American composer/songwriter/producer Richard Rudolph. She was in the studio with her mother on the day Riperton recorded "Lovin' You"; one can hear her mother sing "Maya, Maya, Maya" to her near the end of the track.
Minnie died at the age of 31 from breast cancer. If you’re old enough, you might remember this song she recorded in the mid 1970’s a few years before she died.

Loving you- Minnie Riperton

Love that song. I remember very well when she died. It was a real shock. And, it sort of still is whenever I hear that song, which isn't too often.

I've been clicking around the youtube page of the guys that uploaded that video. There's some amazing stuff there. Between these guys and the all the other guys who uploaded TV from the 60's and 70's, I gotta ask, what on earth were they doing? Sitting around recording TV shows? Not to mention, how did they do this?

Okay, and the rest of the question, they saved these films, tapes, videos, whatever, for all this time, why? Obviously, they had no way to know we'd be sitting here in 2007 watching this:

... a hundred times in a row.

I'm not sure if you guys will remember it, but several years back, SNL had the cast members take turns introducing their mothers on air as a special Mother's Day tribute.

When it was Maya Rudolph's turn, she stood on the stage all alone and explained who her mother was and how she died so young. Then they showed the video of her mother signing "Loving You" ... a different version than the YouTube clip.

I could be wrong, but I could swear Maya said her mother was pregnant with her on the particular clip they showed ... in any case, it was very sad and touching.

Thanks for posting the clip ... it's a great song. :)
