Y’all Are Full of It

Note to Richard Roeper: I don’t know anyone from Central Illinois that says “y’all”. At least no one raised here.

I'm from the Alton area (south of Springfield) and I don't know anyone there that says "y'all".

Someone should tell him the difference between a midwestern rural accent and a southern accent. He probably thinks of Deliverance anytime someone talks about Southern Illinois.

Although, its nice to see someone besides me use the word "Willinois" for the first time.

Personally, I prefer "y'all" over that Chicago favorite, "youze."

I do wish he would have pointed out that in Chicago they say, "dees, dem, and doze." Somehow the rest of the state has learned to say, "these, them and those."

Mason Dixon runs right through here.

Lincoln lost Sangamon County, but won Springfield.

Troops were based here not just for training, but to prevent Copperheads from taking over the State Government.

Drive a bit outside of town, and you'll find it's an entirely different mindset.

Yet, is that a bad thing?

In the age of the Internet, Satellite Television & Radio people actually have to be wanting to "stay local".

But is that a bad thing?

The whole accent thing?

English mixed with Irish mixed with German for the most part in large cities - now infused with African American and Latinos.

The South thank the Scottish for that nasality.

It's all so stupid people even care anymore.

Wow the online English critics just won't die. That is just plain aggravating for many reasons. With that said. I've been know to use the phrase y’all a time or two. I think nothing less of myself or others for doing so. Them again I did live down south years ago for a little bit.

I adore the term y'all when used to describe bands like Wilco and its predecessor Uncle Tupelo as "y'all-ternative".

Bring it, Roeper.
