Bipartisanship Disorder

I love calls for bipartisanship from political hacks. Congressman Ray LaHood (R-This Neck of the Woods) was speaking in Carbondale yesterday. From the story in the Daily Egyptian:
Since the beginning of his Congressional stint in 1994, LaHood was chairman of the impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton in 1998…
(Emphasis mine.) Then in the very next paragraph:
"Bipartisanship is the only way to succeed in a legislative body," LaHood said.
Ha. The biggest act of political PARTISAN hackery during the 1990s came in the ridiculous (and failed) impeachment trial. Yeah, keep up the bipartisanship, Ray baby.

For what it’s worth, I think the notion of bipartisanship for its own sake is overrated. People disagree on issues and elected officials should fight for what they believe in, not seek some mythical bipartisan holy grail.

Dave,

In general I agree with you. Usually when you have compromise or bipartisanship, nothing good comes out of it.

If you are a conservative, stand up for your beliefs, the same goes for liberals. I think one of the reason that the GOP is in a bind right now is because Bush and the GOP leadership failed to deliver on the conservative platform on which they ran.

A good example is McCain. He has for years tried to play buddy buddy with the mainstream media. What did they do to him? The second he won the nomination, the NYT turned on him with that crazy story about the lobbyist. So much for trying to reach out.

1)NCLB to tear up public schools
2)Tax Cuts for the rich
3)Privitizing of the government, especially the military.
4)Government funded "faith based initiative"
5)More Conservative Supreme Court "Justices"
6)Expanded vast military complex
7)Massive defense spending
8)Cut in "social programs"
9)record prison populations
10)Corporations writing our nations laws
11)Global warming deniers running NASA and the EPA
12)The rich get richer and the poor/middle class get poorer

what more would you want?

The second he won the nomination, the NYT turned on him with that crazy story about the lobbyist. So are you saying since they didn't come out with the truth before then, they were a conservative paper?
