Strip Club Tax

I have no problem with funding rape-crisis centers and the like with tax dollars, but the rational for this new Illinois tax seems to be a bit of a stretch.

Why target strip clubs for a new tax?

“Other states have started to put an entrance fee on strip clubs, part of the thinking being that strip clubs, that work, objectifies women,” [executive director of the Springfield-based Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault Polly] Poskin, said. “And our work is to assist women who’ve been objectified and have suffered as a result of that.”

Uh-huh. It seems to me that they are, in some way, calling strip club patrons rapists. Lets just continue funding these things out of the general fund and not try drawing a line from strip clubs to rape.

Even if you thought this was a good idea, why would anyone vote for a tax that's earmarked for a special fund, knowing that the governor will just sweep it into the general fund to try and balance the budget?
