Does This State Make Me Look Fat?

Illinoisans tied for 22nd place (along with Kansans and Virginians) for being the fattest state residents in the U.S. This according to a report put out by a group called Trust for America's Health.

Congratulations Illinoisans for being in the middle of being big in the middle.

The states with the highest percentage of obese adults are Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia, Louisiana and Tennessee according to the report. The states with the lowest percentage of obese adults are Colorado, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont and Montana.

Notice the states at the top of the list?

Those are the poorest states, with the least well educated, and employed.

Those are the states with the highest levels of individuals on welfare, and food assistance.

Poverty, and obesity go hand in hand, and so does hypertension, and early death for african americans.

Now look at the states with the lowest rankings, those are the "whitest" states in the nation.

What's particularly disturbing is that the states with the greatest poverty levels, and highest obesity levels are also the states that a too poor to handle the growing health care problem.
