Term Limits

Remember way, way back less than a dozen years ago when the Republican phonies in Congress came up with the "Contract With America" and Newt Gingrich came riding in as Speaker of the House? My favorite part was the whole term limits thing. You know, three terms (or whatever) in Congress and you're out. Well, not surprisingly, once in power term limits were never mentioned again. However, our own Rep. John Shimkus did impose term limits on himself when he first ran for Congress. Now, a higher power is asking him to break that pledge.
WASHINGTON - President George Bush pulled U.S. Rep. John Shimkus into the Oval Office on Friday to ask the Southern Illinois congressman to reconsider his stance on term limits.

Shimkus, R-Collinsville, is currently serving his fifth term as the U.S. Representative of Illinois District 19. When Shimkus first made a run for the office in 1996, he pledged he would only serve six terms. This means under current timeline, 2006 would be Shimkus' last election cycle - possibly ending his reign in 2008.

However, Bush thinks that might be too soon for Shimkus to bow out.
Will
Shimkus do it? He has the perfect cover now -The President needs him.
