So Van Halen is touring again and will have almost the original lineup. Original bassist Michael Anthony will not be with them, but aren’t David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen really the faces of Van Halen back when anyone cared?
Anyway, all the news stories, print and TV, have featured 23+ year-old photos of the band. I guess because that’s the last time Roth was with them. But still, given things like this and this, it’s a bit misleading to have the still youthful pics of the band in the mid ‘80s displayed in stories about their alleged 2007 tour. I don’t think the pictures of this tour will be quite so glamorous.
And by the way, the 1979 VH show the band put on here may have been the worst concert I ever attended. (It was also the last one I ever saw at the Armory before the PCCC was built.) So excuse me if I miss them this time around.

Why isn't Michael Anthony touring with them?
I don't care for Van Halen, just curious as to why the guy once labeled "the luckiest person in rock and roll" isn't getting a cut of the reunion bankroll.
I haven’t seen any reason for Anthony being left out. However Eddie’s son, Wolfgang, is supposed to be playing bass. Maybe this was Eddie’s idea. Maybe they wanted as many people as possible named Van Halen to be in Van Halen. The whole thing sounds like a train wreck. Sometimes it’s best to just let go what’s already gone.
Michael is good buddies with Hagar, and they're touring together this fall. Eddie said he can't be in two bands, which gave him the opportunity to bring his son aboard. To make up for the lack of Michael's vocals, they're using backing tracks. Eddie didn't want Mike aboard for the '04 tour, but Hagar would have nothing to do with that. Go see Hagar and Anthony is Bloomington. It'll be cheaper and a better show. For me, EVH & DLR together is a can't miss. The greatest guitarist in the last 30 years is worth the ticket price.
Mohave,
That's informative.
