Where’s the Corned Beef?

Lots of Springfield eating establishments are going to be cooking up corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day, and that’s great, I love good corned beef. What I want to know is, beyond St. Pat’s Day, where can you get the best corned beef in Springfield. D’Arcy’s Pint has a good year ‘round corned beef and cabbage dinner but is there somewhere better?

When I lived in Chicago, good corned beef was not hard to find in delis and bars (the latter often had particularly good corned beef on St. Pat’s). The “corned beef” you get a most grocery store delis around here is crap. It has little resemblance to real corned beef. So what say you; where can I get the best corned beef in the area?

Bonus question: I also like corned beef hash, so what restaurant around here sells a good plate of that? The stuff in the can is just not very good.

I'll be watching this thread to see where we can get good corned beef year round. I like sandwiches. Do you like Reubens? How do you feel about pastrami? Personally, I love it. These sandwiches are some of the things I miss about living in Chicago.

As for the corned beef hash, Dave, oh Dave, my dear Dave, in all my years, you are the first person I know who has actually admitted to liking the stuff. Well, you and my mom. I'm proud of you. Since I'm not a connoisseur, I can't vouch for the quality, but they do have it on the menu at Sunrise. Also, I'd bet Jungle Jim's serves a mean plate of corned beef hash, too.

Am I really that big a freak for liking the hash? It seems to me if one likes corned beef, and who doesn’t, one would also like it served with potatoes and whatever else goes into the hash. The most interesting corned beef hash I ever had was in New Orleans where one place served it as one inch cubes of the beef with some sort of potatoes merely cut into quarters. Hash for giants. But it was good.

Corned beef hash with and egg poached on top -- Oh My God! One of the best breakfast known to human kind!
