McCain Picks Palin: May-December Candidacy

So sez CNN. I’m not sure I’d ever even heard of Sarah Palin before the buzz around her started to surface this morning. When I looked her up on the internet, I thought I recognized here from somewhere. Then I decided it was just because she looks like the pictures of eyewear models at LensCrafters.

Politically, can anyone say “Dan Quayle”? Well, in out-of-left-fieldness terms anyway. I guess we will all get to know her better in the coming weeks.

Update: Uh-oh. Palin was recently quoted as saying she has no idea what the vice president even does. Now that’s experience we can believe in, my friends.

It seems like he's trying to court some Hilary fems, but Palin is pro-life, so I'm not sure that's going to do it.

Funny Lens Crafters comment.

For one thing, this completely undercuts McCain's arguments against Obama about how important experience is. I think it also shows he doesn't really care about serving...he only cares about winning. It's pandering. It’s also scary. This VP could very well end up president given McCain's age and health issues. That’s kinda frightening.

If the vp's lack perceived lack of experience is an issue, please remember that 1) she has more experience than Obama and 2) what does that say about Obama's lack of experience. All he has accomplished in his life is to write books about his drug parties and run for election. In fact, he has spent more time campaigning and shooting hoops than actually working.

Anonymous said...

There is no "lack perceived lack of experience" in a woman that was a mayor of a town smaller then Chatham, and governor for 2 years. Sorry, being runner up to Miss Alaska doesn't count.

Anonymous said...

Wow...thanks for the compelling argument Mr. Monday. You sure convinced me.

The issue isn’t with her experience or the arguable lack thereof. This issue is what this says about McCain’s judgment. Let’s just say, for grins, that Ms. Palin is a very capable and very smart and might SOMEDAY make a good president should she choose that route. Great...whatever...don't care. My concern here and now is that McCain’s showed very poor decision making skills. His choice is a desperate and risky one; it shows that he cares more about winning this race than what’s best for the country (in which case, he wouldn't have even run at all). I also get the impression he thinks most people…..especially women…..are complete morons.

Sorry…none of that is going to win my vote.

Anonymous said...

I dont think the choice was desperate. Risky? Maybe in a political sense. But this lady has had more accomplishments in her short time than Obama has had.

Then again Obama is risky. Do we know enough about him and his past? He wont let us find out as he has tried to stop investigations into his ties with the domestic terrorist William Ayers. Why did he try to stop it?

Sorry, the pal of the convicted felon and 20 year follower of a racist preacher wont win my vote either. Talk about lack of judgment.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, the pal of the convicted felon

That's why rick wants to turn all prisons into concentration camps complete with big ovens. Clearly, once a criminal and always a criminal.

Investigate all you want, didn't you hear, Obama at the age of 8 planned the bombings too.

Oh, and speaking of criminal friends. 2+ 2 = Keating Five.

Anonymous said...

rick,

i thought you were voting Obama...did you flip flop? :)

Second, what evidence is there of him having ties with a domestic terrarist?

Third, Fat Tony was convicted when Obama and him worked together...so technically, Obama did not have ties with a convicted felon, future felon perhaps, but not a convicted one.

Anonymous said...

sorry my third point should have read fat tony was not a convicted felon when Obama and him worked together.

Had a McCain moment.

Blevins,

Read up on William Ayers and Obama. The guy bombed

Between October 1969 and September 1973, the Weather Underground claimed credit for some twenty bombings across the country, in which no one was harmed — save the three cell members who perished in a Greenwich Village townhouse in March 1970, when one of their creations detonated prematurely. Ayers claimed the fact that no other individuals were killed as a result of the Weathermen’s actions was “by design.”

Read more here:

http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=ODk2ZTRmZDIwNWEzOWE2MDNhMTQ0ZWYwYmRiNWZmNDM=

Ayers held fundraisers for Obama. They were obviously joined at the hip. What does this show about Obama's judgment. Do you have any "friends" who were bombers? Obama does. We just dont know enough about Obama Biden to elect him to run our country. I am not sure where his allegiance stands.

And yes, I did flip flop on Obama. I was going to vote for him until he claimed that middle class white people cling to their guns and their religion out of desperation. It shows how out of touch he really is.

Anonymous said...

So Rick is saying yet again, once a criminal, always a criminal. Once convicted, you should never do anything to make amends and make it a better world. Just crawl in some hole and die. How much fund raising has the felon G Gordon Lilly done?

Hey Rick, wipe the spittle off your lip. 2 + 2 = Keating 5

Oh, and Bush is a unconvicted(yet) felon.

By the way, this thread is supposed to be about McCains VP pick, yet RM seems to switch it to some manufactured Ayers/Obama link. Please peddle your fantasy with your delusional buddies at RedState.org

The Obama is risky and do we know anything about him argument has sounded like something out of indoctrination class for quite some time now.

Further, Barack Obama would have only been 8 years old in October of '69 and 12 in September of '73.

But, back to the subject at hand. I'm beginning to get the feeling Sarah Palin is a diversion for something else and that she will not be on the ticket in November.

Anonymous said...

If you read all of the posts, I was responding to the fact that Palin was a desperate or risky pick. My point was that she is not nearly as risky as Obama. She has more experience and is more qualified.

To support my argument that Obama was more of a risk, I gave an example: his ties to a fricking guy who set off bombs in the US. Now, once a criminal always a criminal? No. Of course not, but does it show good judgement to become buddies with a former bomber? I dont think so. I guess that is what sets us apart.

McCain shows lack of judgment by:
1) having over 100 lobbyist on his campaign staff
2) Singing bomb bomb Iran
3) Throwing a birthday party while Nola drowns
4) Opposing the new G.I bill, then taking credit for it.
5) Calling his wife a c*nt.
6) Cheating on his first wife that got ugly in a car wreck
7) Voted against minimum wage increases 19 times than claims to be for it.
8) After the Bush campaign spread nasty rumors about his adopted child in the 2000, he turns around and supports the liar for president, multiple times
9)Missed more senate votes then Obama, including important ones for veterans.
10)When he showed up, he votes 100% with the soon to be convicted criminal Bu$h.
11) Flip-flopped on off shore drilling so he can get another $800K from the oil companies
12) Jack Amberoff
13) Keating 5

etc, etc, and
247) selected a 44 year old GILF for VP thinking disgruntled Dem woman would vote for a woman that has opposite views on everything that Hillary stands for.

Now for her qualifications
1) She was mayor for a town smaller then Chatham.
2) While mayor she fired the chief of police and library directory for not supporting her run for mayor.
3) Was governor of a state (just 2 years) with one of the smallest population and no budget problems due to the oil money coming in
4) She was for the "bridge to nowhere" before she opposed it.
5) She used her power to try and get her former brother-in-law fired to help her sister, then fires his boss for not firing the guy.

Yet somehow "She has more experience and is more qualified". Come on Rick, show your math. You keep insisting she is she is more qualified, show the math.

As for your earlier rant about not knowing "enough about Obama". What is the use. Even after being shown his damn birth certificate, you wrong wingers claim it's fake. Even after being shown all the numbers and math about Rezco, you claim he still got a sweat heart deal. No matter how many times we slap the facts against your narrow little mind, you deny and continue to live in your fantasy world. Please go back to redstate.org and "communicate" with the rest of your braindead delusional crowd.

McCain doesnt vote 100% with Bush. Your whole argument is discredited.

How many times has obama voted "present"? It is just a cop out because he doesnt have the balls to make tough decisions.

Regarding experience, she was indeed a mayor and a governor. That alone is shows more experience than Obama.

And you can go back to the Weather Underground and DailyKos or Keith Olberman.

Anonymous said...

"selected a 44 year old GILF for VP"

Oh my God, that's funny.

Anonymous said...

McCain doesnt vote 100% with Bush. Your whole argument is discredited.

Ok, using Rick's math, if once small part of an argument is incorrect, the whole argument is incorrect no matter how the rest is related or not (and he as even used speling mistakes to "disprove" an argument).

McCain supported Bush in 95% of his votes in 2007 and has managed to achieve a perfect 100% score so far in 2008.

How many times has obama voted "present"? It is just a cop out because he doesnt have the balls to make tough decisions.

Rick once again shows what little he knows about politics, including Illinois politics. Unlike Congress and the legislatures of most other states, each chamber of the Illinois Legislature requires a “constitutional majority” to pass a bill. The state Senate has 59 members, so it takes 30 affirmative votes. This makes a “present” vote the same as a no. If a bill receives 29 votes, but the rest of the senators vote “present,” it fails.
In the Illinois Senate, there can be strategic reasons for voting “present” rather than simply no. A member might approve the intent of legislation, but not its scope or the way it has been drafted. A “present” vote can send a signal to a bill’s sponsors that the legislator might support an amended version. Voting “present” can also be a way to exercise fiscal restraint, without opposing the subject of the bill.

Regarding experience, she was indeed a mayor and a governor. That alone is shows more experience than Obama.
I ask him to show his math(twice), he doesn't.
Obama was Illinois Senator for 6 years, then was the U.S senator for Illinois for 3+ year, according to Rick that is less experience then a 2 year governor and a mayor of a town smaller then Chatham that meets, what, once a month and decides what to name streets or something. She doesn't even know what a VP does or that the pledge of allegiance was not written by our founding fathers.

If you want to talk about Ayers & Obama, that’s fine but then you also have to admit that McCain is pals with his own convicted felon: G. Gordon Liddy...an unrepentant radical (some say “terrorist”) who was inspired by Hitler and held fundraisers for McCain in his own home. (I guess that makes McCain and Liddy joined at the hip, too.) He also contributed more money to McCain’s campaign than Ayers did to Obama’s. McCain can also be tied to his own hateful, bigoted preachers: Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson…both of whom blamed the 9/11 attacks on homosexuality and feminists, among others. By the way, Palin is a member of the Feminist for Life group which might be significant because many feminist views conflict greatly with many of McCain’s political stances which is one reason his VP choice seems odd...but not to worry. Actual feminists (and other smart women in general) have pointed out that Palin’s not really a proponent of women’s rights (like McCain) and her selection as VP is an insult to them. Palin is also currently under ethics investigation in her own state.

To not recognize similar indiscretions and poor judgment amongst all the candidates and only focus on Obama is hypocrisy.

And now the latest which is either a cover up on the part of Palin or just Internet rumor...we'll see. Palin’s unmarried 17-year old daughter is pregnant. Certainly nothing new in America and of course everyone involved says they’re proud as can be but the real issue/question now is did Ms. Palin cover up the same daughter’s earlier pregnancy (the new baby with Downs) by claiming the child as her own? Palin surprised even her own staff by announcing that she was seven months pregnant and leaving immediately to give birth (but after a campaign stop, a lengthy flight and the fact that she didn’t appear pregnant which made it hard for some to accept). Around that same time, her daughter missed over five months of school supposedly for mono. Meanwhile, some of the photos of the pregnant-looking daughter have been removed from the gov's website. Hmm. I’ll be watching this one very closely. I don't wish for the daughter or the family to be trashed in the process...they will, I'm sure...but this is relevant because it again speaks to McCain's lack of judgment for picking someone not properly vetted. I mean seriously….do you think he thought this potential bombshell would be good for his campaign? He clearly thought this was someone who would help him win the election...nothing more.

Anonymous said...

Speaking about the current pregnancy (the down's child is rumor, for now) I thought it was hilarious how the campaign announced the the daughter "chose" to keep the baby. This is from the anti-choice party!
Secondly, GILF is also pro-abstinence-only teaching in schools. This has been proven ineffective and sadly this "teaching" has taken yet another victim.

Palin also was head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission which was basically overseeing the largest oil reserves in the country. I am sure she had to make decisions that required more than a "present" answer.

Anonymous said...

more than a "present" answer I already addressed the "present" vote. Like I said before no matter how much we slap the truth against you narrow little mind, you continue live in a fantasy world.

Anonymous said...

Geek,

No matter how you justify it, I still think it is a cop out. If you are for the program vote yes, if not vote no. Period.

I would say the same about any republican too. I am sure McCain and Biden have also voted Present in the past. I think anyone who votes Present does a disservice to their constituents.

Anonymous said...

Rick, since your reading comprehension is zero, I will split it up for you.

1) The present vote criticism was for when Obama us in the Illinois Senate.

2) In the Illinois Senate, a present vote has a strategic meaning and counts the same as a no vote.

3) McCain and Biden never voted in the Illinois Senate.

Understand? Sorry, I can't fix stupid.

Anonymous said...

Geek,

Then why not just vote No?

I still think that it is because there are some tough political issues that politicians, and I will include others than just Obama, dont want to take a stand on for fear of looking bad, back tracking, whatever.

I think it is the weak man's way out.

Again, you can put all the perfume on this that you want, but it is still a pig.

Anonymous said...

Then why not just vote No?
Umm, I answered that in the thread already. Look for
Rick once again shows what little he knows about politics, including Illinois politics

Thanks for proving, yet again, your zero reading comprehension.

Anonymous said...

Herpes,
What? No snide comments for this thread, come on you can at least vote "present", or are you taking the weak man's way out?

Anonymous said...

Geek,

What do you want me to say? I have made my position clearly known. Anyone who votes present, GOP and Dem alike, is a coward. Period.

Now you can say that there are strategic reasons for it, I might buy that if it only happens once or twice but with Obama it was dozens of times. To me that shows his lack of character. Trying to impress everyone all the time and taking no stands shows that you are morally weak. I have more respect for Michael Moore than I do for Obama. At least you know where Moore stands.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for showing not only your zero reading comprehension, butt the inability to "do nuance". A no vote means "hell no, go away, get off my lawn". A yes vote means I support it. A "present vote" means (nuance warning) "no, not this version but if you change it I will probably probably vote for it". It's something like a line item veto. Sorry to hear you live in such a black and white world.

Where does McCain stand on offshore drilling, Bush Tax Cuts, ethics reform, etc? With proper funding (bribes) from his lobbyist staff, he easily flips his position. What is Palin's stand on earmarks?

Anonymous said...

Nuance! yes, that is the essence of Obama's plans.

Who is John Gault?

Anonymous said...

Well the "you are for us or for the terrorist" crap worked so well.

Nuance takes more then 2 brain cells, now I know why you don't like it.
