Same Old Drill

While the debate over expanded offshore drilling continues in Washington, it turns out that individual states have the final say. And guess what; most of them either aren’t interested in drilling off their shores or have little-to-no potential oil to offer.
So I say go ahead and lift the ban. It’s not going to do anything at all for the price of gasoline but it gets the silliness off the political table and will stop the ridiculous demagoguery by the usual (Republican) suspects. In the end, there will be little drilling because there isn’t much to drill for and the local states have minimal interest in the undertaking anyway. The whole issue will die and we can move forward with real solutions to our energy needs.

Dave,

I agree that we should lift the ban. China is already drilling off our shores. There is no reason that we should not be able to do so either.

I also think it will help ease gas prices. Prices have dropped almost $30/barrel since Bush announced that he would lift the presidential ban. The markets are driven by oil futures. By the US having the ability now drill for more oil, and yes there is lots of oil off of our shores, the futures markets will react accordingly and all other factors being equal, the price of oil should drop even further.

Regarding "playing politics", I think the Democrats have to share in the blame. Pelosi is telling her fellow dems who are up for re-election to go ahead and support more drilling. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12304.html

That seems pretty political to me. But then again, this do nothing congress has single digit approval ratings, even worse than Bush. Even Obama is now open to drilling off the shores.

I dont understand why we cannot have a 3 pronged approach. Everyone seems to make it "this or that". Lets conserve, lets develop alternatives, and lets drill. The seems reasonable to me.

Apparently you didn't get the latest memo from Darth Cheney

Wow, Rick is wrong again. If he is wrong on a simple fact is that, I'm not going to waste my time disproving the rest of his BS.

Exploring involves drilling. So as usual I am right. How does that crow taste?

Exploring involves drilling.
from the linked article
"It is our understanding that, although Cuba has leased out exploration blocks 60 miles off the coast of southern Florida, which is closer than American firms are allowed to operate in that area, no Chinese firm is drilling there," according to the statement.
You sir, are an idiot.

Sigh, it is too bad that whenever someone refutes a liberals statement the said liberal then resort to personal attacks.

Well, like Obama, most liberals have little substance and thus their only option it to make personal attacks. Why dont you follow the advice of the Anointed One and just try to bring this country together.

Dear Paris Hilton,
I disproved your dumb ass claims then I belittled you.

Please prove your claim and provide substance that China is drilling off the U.S., otherwise quit belittling Obama. Otherwise continue to stand up for the guys campaign that consists of comparing his opponent to Paris Hilton and insulting experts that tell us to keep our tires inflated to proper pressure to save gas.

Oh, and 2 + 2 <> 5.
