Rollback Rolled Back

...
Yes! The Springfield City Council has voted to retain the current smoking ban unamended. More on that later.

Update: And, as always, Dan is both quite sensible and funny in explaining the issue here. Sadly for the other side, Irwin Mainway was not able to appear before the council tonight.

Do you know anyone who's been to one of those new outdoor heated beer gardens? I haven't. But I know there's at least a couple around town that people could be going to if they got it that bad.

The smoker boycott that is currently hurting these businesses should end soon.

I hear them excitedly calling into the Pam Furr radio talk show.

They feel their power.

They will sue the government.
They will vote all the city council out of office.

They blame it on the non-smokers.
They will overcome.

Having smoked for many years I can say that even in the midst of my nicotine addiction I could control my need for a smoke if I wanted to be around good company, drink some fine tasting brew, eat some fine tasting food, and meet girls.

In fact part of the reason I quit smoking is that my best friends kept telling me - you can't smoke here, you can't smoke there.

Something very strange about how smokers in town seem unable to set their priorities right.

They chose cancer, and heart disease, over a longer, healthier life.

They chose turning into goop in a pine box over hugging their grandchildren.

They chose sitting at home with evil smirks on their faces over going out, and having a good time, at their favorite bar, or entertainment spot.

And why?

BECAUSE they are hopeless slaves to a highly addictive drug.
