Despite the admirable cloaking of all this in the garment of "the American public", the White House press corp's anger is based on one thing: Scott McClellan lied to the Whitte House press corps. The President, the Vice President, the Army and Navy football teams, the Secretary of State--all of them can lie to any or all of the planets in the solar system, and hey, that's politics. But, stand at that podium, and lie to those people, and let them eventually find out about it, and, brother, you got trouble.No poo, Sherlock.

Lie If You Want, But Not To Us
Harry Shearer has a great Rove-Gate line in a post in the Huffington Parallel Blogosphere. Commenting on why the Washington Press Corps (or should that be Corpse) suddenly found it's spine this week, Shearer nails it:

Right on. And knowing the press corps mentality, they will push and dig to solve this Rove crap, just to put McCelland on the spot. Hopefully, this will lead to further digging to confirm for the public, conclusively, the kind of a--holes who "advise" the president. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove are the modern day equivalent of Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!
