Dems to Convene in N.O. in 2008?

Harry Shearer has his fifth post on his return to New Orleans up on the HuffPo Blog. He relays a report he heard on a local New Orleans radio station that suggests that at least some Democrats are thinking of holding their convention in the Big Easy in two years:
WWL radio is reporting that a Democratic Congressman from Maryland, Elijah Cummings, is proposing holding the 2008 Dem convention in New Orleans, as the same kind of gesture as the GOP going to NYC last year.
Intriguing and, I think, a fine gesture. The money is going to be spent somewhere, why not a place that could really use it. Maybe both parties could see fit to do their part in bringing this gem of a city back to life?
