My bellwether gas station (the Shell at Washington and Veterans) dropped its price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline to $1.99 today.
While I enjoy low gas prices as much as the next guy, I was liking the fact that high prices were forcing more conservation, renewed interest in fuel economy in cars and talk of alternative fuels.

Isn't it amazing that we now consider $1.99 to be a "low" gas price? Hurricane Katrina is the gift that keeps on giving to the oil industry.
