WMAY's Jim Leach has announced he soon will be starting a blog. He joins his co-worker Mike Wilson in having a talk show AND a blog. If only they could also get regular columns in the SJ-R we might finally know what they really think.
At least the WMAY guys are free to express opinions on items in the news. Poor Steve Scott has tied his own hands on expressing opinions on things he might cover as a newsperson (here's an example). Why even have a blog under those circumstances? Scott does news at WLS in Chicago and is president of the Illinois News Broadcasters Association. Fortunately, Leach and Wilson do news and talk on their station and aren't self-censoring regarding things that appear in the news.
Anyway, the list of Springfield bloggers continues to grow. That's a good thing.
